Teeth Whitening

One of the simplest and most dramatic things you can do to improve the appearance of your smile is to have your teeth whitened. A teeth whitening treatment can reverse the staining effects of substances such as coffee, tea, dark-colored soft drinks, and tobacco. At our practice serving the Memphis and Nashville areas, we offer teeth whitening with the Zoom!® system, which lightens teeth an average of eight shades in a single treatment!

The Zoom!® Teeth Whitening Procedure

The entire Zoom!® teeth whitening procedure takes about an hour, including preparation and treatment time.

  • First, the dentist will prepare your mouth by covering your lips and gums, leaving only the teeth exposed for treatment.

  • Next, the Zoom!® teeth whitening gel is applied to the teeth, and a special light is used to accelerate its bleaching power. The teeth are exposed to this light for about 15 minutes, which helps the gel penetrate to remove deep stains.

  • Finally, the gel is washed off and the procedure is repeated two more times for a total treatment time of 45 minutes.

Zoom!® teeth whitening has been proven safe and effective in studies and is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available at our practice serving the Memphis and Nashville areas. If you are interested in teeth whitening, contact the Southern Dental Implant Center to learn more.

Porcelain Dental Crowns

Similar to porcelain veneers, dental crowns are used to camouflage imperfections such as cracks, chips, small gaps, slight misalignments, and discolorations. Instead of covering the front surface of a tooth as porcelain veneers do, dental crowns fit over an entire tooth like a cap. In addition to the cosmetic benefits of crowns, they are used to add support to a tooth that has been weakened due to decay, damage, or root canal therapy. At the Southern Dental Implant Center, serving the Memphis and Nashville areas, we use all-porcelain dental crowns for an extremely natural result that can enhance the overall appearance of a smile.

Placement of Dental Crowns

Two appointments are typically required to make and place dental crowns. During the first appointment, the natural tooth is prepared by removing decayed or damaged structure. This creates room for the thickness of the crown. The dentist then makes an impression of the prepared tooth and sends it to a dental laboratory where your crown is custom-made from tooth-colored porcelain. You will wear a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your permanent crown is ready.

Once our office receives your permanent crown, you will return to have it bonded in place. During this second appointment, the dentist will remove your temporary crown, place the permanent crown on your tooth, and make minor adjustments if needed so that it fits your tooth perfectly.

With proper care, your porcelain dental crowns will last for many years. Contact our cosmetic dentistry practice serving the Memphis and Nashville areas to learn more about dental crowns and to schedule an appointment today!

Tooth-colored Fillings

For many years, the only option for filling cavities was conspicuous metal fillings. Not anymore! Today, advances in dental material and techniques allow our dentists to repair cavities using modern tooth-colored fillings. Tooth-colored fillings are made of composite plastic and resin materials that mimic the natural color and texture of teeth. And, unlike metal fillings, tooth-colored fillings are bonded directly to the tooth, making them extremely durable and easy to apply. We can replace your old metal fillings with new tooth-colored fillings for a natural look.
